It’s Arthritis!
We know Osteoarthritis (OA for short) as a disease of the joints. And when we hear the dreaded diagnosis we may feel like life as we know it is over. But it might surprise you to know that exercise is one of the best treatments!
Yes, in clinical trials for treatments for OA, exercise regularly comes out at (or near) the top of beneficial treatments. And exercise and weight loss are proven to be a winning combination.
So a diagnosis of OA does not signal the end of all activity. True, there’s a lot we can learn to manage the symptoms of OA but one of the first lessons to learn is that exercise is your friend. It’s an important lesson because most people think the opposite!
And that’s where a Physiotherapist can help. We can teach you how to manage the symptoms of OA. We can also show you how to remain active and even exercise in ways that will lead to benefits for your joints and that will aid your efforts to lose weight.
If you’ve been diagnosed with OA … why not give a physiotherapist a try?
